Terms, privacy and disclaimer
The rules for using the Service, what information we handle, and your rights.
Last updated: 6 October 2026
1. Terms of use
These terms apply to your use of Is It Up Or Not? ("the Service", "we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
The Service
Is It Up Or Not? is a free tool that checks whether websites respond. Results show what our server saw at the moment of the check, from its own network, and may differ from what you see. They are provided for general information only.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use automated tools to send large numbers of checks, or to copy the Service's content at scale;
- try to get around our rate limits or other security measures;
- use the Service to probe, attack or overload any website, server or network;
- use the Service for anything unlawful.
We may limit or block access for anyone who breaks these rules.
Third-party websites
The Service names and links to websites run by others. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, availability or policies.
No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise that it will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change or stop it at any time.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service, including decisions you make based on a website's status as shown here.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version, and continuing to use the Service means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of India, and any disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of India.
2. Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Is It Up Or Not? handles when you use the Service, and your rights under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
In short: no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising trackers. We don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
Information we handle
- Websites you check. The address you enter is sent to our server so we can check it. Addresses that exist may appear publicly in the "Recently checked" list, without any information about who checked them. Please don't enter anything private.
- Your IP address. Our server uses it briefly, in memory only, to limit how many checks each visitor can run. It is discarded within about a minute and is not saved by our application.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider (currently Hostinger) may automatically record technical details such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, to keep the website secure and running, under its own privacy policy.
- Your theme choice and recent searches. If you switch between light and dark mode, the choice is saved in your own browser. Your last 5 searches are also saved there, so the search box can suggest them. This list stays on your device and is never sent to us, and you can delete it with the "Clear" button in the search box.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and handle your request.
Third-party services
Website icons on our pages are loaded from Google's favicon service, so your browser contacts Google and Google receives your IP address and browser details. See Google's privacy policy. Our hosting provider stores and serves the website.
How long we keep information
Rate-limiting data is discarded within about a minute. The "Recently checked" list and status history are kept only in server memory and are cleared whenever the server restarts. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with your request.
Sharing
We share information only with service providers we need to run the website, such as our hosting provider, or when the law requires it.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask us for a summary of the personal data we process about you, ask us to correct or erase it, have your grievances addressed, and nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become unable to. To make a request or a complaint, email us at support@isitupornot.com or use our contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 18, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
Security
We protect the website with standard measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and strict browser security settings. No method of sending or storing data is completely secure, but we keep what we handle to a minimum.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this policy and the date at the top of this page.
3. Cookies and local storage
We don't use cookies. The site stores only two things in your browser's local storage: your light or dark theme choice (under the name "theme") and your last 5 searches with their results (under the name "recentSearches"). Both stay on your device. You can clear your searches with the "Clear" button in the search box, or clear everything in your browser settings.
When your browser loads website icons from Google, Google may receive its own cookies with those requests, depending on your browser's settings. Those cookies are controlled by Google, not by us.
