Down only for you? Try these fixes
If a site is up for us but won't load for you, the problem is somewhere between you and the site. Work down this list.
1Force a fresh reload
Your browser may be showing a stale, broken copy. Press Ctrl + F5 on Windows or Linux, or Cmd + Shift + R on a Mac.
2Try a private window or another browser
If the site works in an incognito/private window, clear that site's cookies and cache, or turn off your browser extensions (ad blockers especially) one at a time.
3Flush your DNS cache
Your computer may remember an old address for the site. Open a terminal and run the command for your system:
- Windows
ipconfig /flushdns- macOS
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder- Linux
resolvectl flush-caches
4Switch to a public DNS server
Your internet provider's DNS can fail or block sites. Set your DNS to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8) in your network settings or router.
5Turn off VPN, proxy or firewall
VPNs, proxies, antivirus web shields and parental controls often block sites. Disable them briefly to test, then turn them back on.
6Restart your router and device
Unplug your router for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and restart your computer or phone. This clears many network glitches.
7Try a different network
Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data (or the other way round). If it works there, your internet provider may be having trouble or blocking the site in your region.
8Using an app? Update it
If the website works but the app doesn't, update the app, sign out and back in, or reinstall it. App outages sometimes differ from the website.
How it works
We check from our server
Each popular site is requested every 2 minutes. When you look up a site, we test it right away from the same server, outside your home network.
What counts as down
A site is up if its server answers at all, even with a redirect or a login wall. It's down if it times out, refuses the connection, fails DNS, or returns a 5xx server error.
Slow means struggling
Sites that take longer than 3 seconds to respond are marked slow. That's often the first sign of an outage.
